The Internet can be a very useful tool when the online world is leveraged properly and cautiously. Websites that facilitate the meeting of Christian singles isn't new and was mostly welcomed with opened arms. Couples meeting online today is seen as commonplace for the most part.
Some single Christians feel that using a dating website is the equivalent to "not waiting on God" to bring them a mate. Yet we are told in Matthew 7:7, "Ask and it shall be given to you; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you."
Why would we think that we should not have to "seek" when it comes to relationships? And there is no passage of Scripture that tells us God will provide us with a romantic partner or spouse. God seems to leave that to us. I'm certainly not saying that we shouldn't pray for God to help us find that someone special or that we should not pray for him to bless our relationships. I think it makes since for Christian singles to pray for God to help them in their search, but it is key that they understand that it is a search. It is not simply sitting back and waiting for God to send the right person to your door. God has never told us that.
God gave us legs to walk and arms to reach meaning that He never intended to micromanage us or for us to sit back and wait on him to serve us. God expects us to act and to seek. Many singles marry and are surprised to learn that love is often hard work. It's not waiting around, it's doing, it's serving, and it's seeking. God blesses us when we ask, seek, and knock. Not when we sit back and wait.
Matthew 7:7-12 from the New International Version (NIV):
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets."
